Made in Murano, with master glassmakers at Laguna-B. The glass surfaces resemble agate stone with veins of cream, amber, brown, and deep aubergine; a technique rooted in ancient Levantine glass making traditions, and later emulated by the Venetian. The form is inspired by the silhouette of mosque lamps which, by the Ottoman period, were being produced in Venice and exported to the East.

LEVANT x Laguna-B

Both in technique and form, this collection reflects the dialogue between Eastern and Occidental glass making traditions. Glassware from the Near East was highly prized and made its way to Venice throughout the medieval era, where local artisans adapted and perfected various techniques. By the 1500s, the direction of the trade had reversed, with Venetian glassmakers now supplying the Eastern markets they once learned from. The form of the LEVANT x Laguna-B vase was inspired by one such object; a mosque lamp that was produced in Venice for the Egyptian market during the Ottoman period. The surface technique mimics an ancient Levantine glass style in which hot glass was blended to resemble precious agate stone.
