Named after the artist employed by Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II and the father of Iznik artistry, Baba Nakkas, the Baba platter is a 15th century design recreated and reimagined by a historic workshop in Iznik, Turkey, once the center of ceramic production during the Ottoman Empire. This hand-painted platter, accented by alternating teardrop motifs and stylized Cyprus trees, is characteristic of the first period of Iznik production and emblematic of the designs that emerged from Imperial court patronage.
